Addressing Authority

An Addressing Authority is an individual or organization within a local jurisdiction that through resolutions or ordinances is responsible for issuing addresses to locations for emergency response.

Responsibilities of the Addressing Authority include but are not limited to:

  • Assign addresses and notify 9‑1‑1 Authority, MSAG Coordinator, and GIS Data Provider of the updates
  • Coordinate with the GIS Data Provider to reconcile addressing discrepancies
  • Coordinate with the MSAG Coordinator to reconcile addressing discrepancies
