'''''LIF (Location Interwork Function)''''' is the functional component of a Legacy Network Gateway which is responsible for taking the appropriate information from the incoming signaling (i.e., calling number/[[ANI (Automatic Number Identification)|ANI]], [[ESRK (Emergency Services Routing Key)|ESRK]], cell site/sector) and using it to acquire location information that can be used to route the emergency call and to provide location information to the [[PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point)|PSAP]]. In a Legacy PSAP Gateway, this functional component takes the information from an [[ALI (Automatic Location Identification)|ALI]] query and uses it to obtain location from a [[LIS (Location Information Server)|LIS]]. In an ingress [[LSRG (Legacy Selective Router Gateway)|LSRG]], this functional component interacts with an ALI system as if it were a PSAP to acquire location that can be used to route the emergency call and to provide location information to the PSAP. In an egress LSRG, an ALI system will interact with this functional component as if it were an [[MPC/GMLC (Mobile Positioning Center / Gateway Mobile Location Center)|MPC/GMLC]] to obtain location information.
