FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) was created by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966; it is one of ten agencies within the U.S. Department of Transportation concerned with intermodal transportation. The FRA’s mission is to enable the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of people and goods for a strong America, now and in the future.
