RFC (Request for Comment) is a document published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Note that the name is a historic artifact — An RFC is finalized. RFCs are never revised; updates are published as new RFCs. Errata are noted separately. (Documents for which input and comments are requested are called Internet Drafts. Most RFCs are originally published as an Internet Draft).
