CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management)

From NENA Knowledge Base

CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) refers to a team comprised of peers and mental health professionals who train and work together to help personnel through traumatic and/or critical incidents. These teams play a crucial role following a critical incident by providing group defusing and debriefing meetings and coordinated conversations to mitigate stress reactions and provide guidance on coping. CISM Teams may be local, regional, or from different parts of the US, as it is strongly discouraged for peers to debrief their own personnel.
