NIOC (NG9-1-1 Interoperability Oversight Commission)

NIOC (NG9-1-1 Interoperability Oversight Commission) is an independent, revenue-neutral, oversight governance body for the NG9-1-1 Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Forest Guide, and other technical services necessary for interoperability and security in NG9-1-1. These services are required under standards promulgated by NENA and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The NIOC establishes the rules and policies for operating these services and performs oversight of their day-to-day operation, including compliance and finances. Commission members are selected by the NENA Board of Directors following an open annual nomination process and represent various stakeholder interests within 9-1-1, including elected officials, PSAPs, vendors, service providers, the NENA board, and the 9-1-1 standards development community. The NIOC operates independently of NENA and the NENA Board of Directors.
